Wing Nutz - Wings & Beer

Wing Nutz is a local chain in Salt Lake. It's a place I like to frequent to get my hot wings fix.

These guys have quite a variety of sauces and they aren't overly vinegary, like you might get at a Chili's or a Wingers (another local chain).

Also, they strictly do not fry their wings. I've had some sauces that are really good & some that are bad. I can't remember the bad ones, I don't order them anymore.

Actually, I don't order anymore. I let my wife order the wing combinations, because I can't remember.  So I'm guessing here:  chili garlic, parmesan curry, jalapeno honey BBQ, traditional, and southern hotties.  You can also get them as either chicken or "hog" wings.  Hog wings are pork shanks.

Something else to remark upon, Wing Nutz has their own beer label. They contract brew through Wasatch Brewing. The three beers that I've had most recently are: Jack Mormon Lager,
Wing Man Pale Ale, and Wing Nutz Wyld.

I don't think these are a simple repackaging of Wasatch beers. I think they are unique recipes. All these beers are 4.0% ABV, served on tap. (In Utah, only 4.0% ABV beer can be served on tap.)

The Jack Mormon Lager is an American Style Lager... Pilsnerish with adjuncts

A point of note, it's tough to make a good 4% ABV Pale Ale. Wing Man Pale Ale and Wyld are both Pale Ales. Wyld lists as an "Extra".

Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought the "extra" in extra pale ale meant "extra hoppy". But of these two beers, Wing Man has more hops. It seems to use Cascade, but not aggressively. Wyld seems much like the same beer, but less hoppy than Wing Man.

Bottom line: the Wing Nut beers are not bad, but their potential is limited by having to live inside that 4.0% ABV box.
