Zion Canyon - Jamaican Style Lager

There is a lot going on here for a light lager. And I'm not sure what make a lager "Jamaican" besides being highly carbonated.

There is a lot going on with the flavor of this beer. It's malty and sweet. A lot of residual sweetness is not uncommon in Caribbean beers. Caribbean stouts are usually sweet stouts.

There is a light, but noticeable amount of hop flavor. IBUs = 22, but really don't seem like it. I'm getting a light fruity citrus from the hops. I'm guessing Cascade.

One thing that was really odd: something glubbed a couple times into the glass as poured the beer. When I got to the bottom of the glass I discovered a glob of sediment in the bottom of the glass.

Hooray for unfiltered beer!

I mean that sincerely. Filtering beer gets sediment out, but also strips flavor compounds from the beer. Unless it is something that is supposed to be filtered, like Kolsch, I'd prefer to have an unfiltered beer.

Don't get me wrong on my bottom line for this beer. This isn't a bad beer. It's quite refreshing.

But priced $1 or $2 more for a six-pack than Uinta's, Wasatch's, and Squatter's 4.0% beers, I'm not sure why I would pick it over one of theirs.
